Given the fulfillment of the first six years of the implementation of Law 20,903, the Ministry of Education made a call to the different actors of the educational communities, such as supporters, principal teachers and directors of kindergartens, classroom teachers, educators /s of kindergartens, and education professionals, to participate in the six-year evaluation of the Teacher Professional Development System (SDPD).
Monitoring by UNDP
The first edition of the monitoring will be in charge of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), an international organization with experience in education, which is implementing interviews, surveys and focus groups for education workers in the national territory, a process that will last until March-April 2023.
“The improvement of the quality of life of the educational communities must be done together with the teachers, one of the characteristics of our management is to trust what the teachers have to contribute to this challenge, as well as to the evaluations of the Teacher Professional Development. It is important to have the collaboration in the comprehensive evaluation process of each one of you, which will be able to provide us with fundamental information on the progress of the legislation and will help us to continue advancing in education with the voice of all, “said the minister of Education, Marco Antonio Avila.
The Resident Representative in Chile of the United Nations Development Program, Georgiana Braga-Orillard, explained that “we value the participatory spirit that has prevailed when convening the various actors and territories of the Chilean educational ecosystem to evaluate the first six years of implementation of Law 20,903, which creates the Teacher Professional Development System. From UNDP, we hope to contribute to strengthening educational institutions and politics with contributions of knowledge, assessment and various experiences that we are about to collect, addressing the central axes that allow the country to continue advancing on the path of professionalization of the teaching function and the improvement in the quality of education.
Measurement focus
The follow-up will be focused on the measurement of two central factors of the law, such as the training support system and the recognition and promotion system. This will allow knowing the contribution of both components in the induction, insertion, improvement, performance and professional career of teachers and educators covered by Law 20,903 during the period 2016-2022.
Regarding the training support system, the following will be evaluated: the training offer of CPEIP and HEIs, instruments, standards, induction process to professional practice and local training processes as part of the initial support. The legislation establishes that every six years the program must be evaluated.
