Rafael Amaya returns to “El Señor de los Cielos” to tell the “truth” of the narco
Los Angeles (USA), Jan 12 (EFE).- Rafael Amaya returns as the protagonist of “El Señor de los Cielos”, the most successful narconovela of all time, to tell the world what “really” happens in the world of drug trafficking, according to what he said in an interview with EFE. Amaya and the rest of the cast described to EFE as “something premonitory” that the eighth season premieres just when there is an increase in drug-related violence in Mexico, the country where the story centers. “We are doing this project in the form of a complaint so that the whole world finds out what is happening in Mexico and other parts of Latin America. And, in a way, we are even painfully ahead of the facts,” said Amaya, who reprises the role of Aurelio Casillas after a three-year absence following serious health problems caused by drug addiction. “To get into the role I had to go back to study what is happening in the world of drugs and I found it even worse,” said the Mexican actor, who feels “the responsibility” to tell the world what “really” happens . Neither for him nor for his colleagues Iván Arana, Isabella Castillo and Maricela González it is a coincidence that “El Señor de los Cielos” returns in a context of violence like the one currently experienced in Mexico after the capture a few days ago of Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman. On the contrary, the actors assured that many of the things that happen today “are reflected in history”, although they recorded them months ago. The arrest of Guzmán López unleashed a series of violent acts in cities such as Culiacán, Mazatlán and Los Mochis, in addition to the cancellation of school and government activities in the state of Sinaloa and the population was asked to remain in their homes. THE MESSAGE HAS CHANGED When criticism of the so-called “narconovelas” began, the personnel behind and in front of the cameras used to reject the accusations that they glorified criminal life, arguing that their productions were “the Latin version of the movies and series of gangsters”. More than a decade later the explanations have changed. “The life of these people (the drug traffickers) is not easy. They are people who suffer and it is up to us to interpret the psychology of these characters and show that this is not the life they think is the coolest (good) thing”, stressed Arana, who plays Ismael Casillas, the eldest son. of Aurelius. “This is a concrete contribution that we make. These people are suffering all the time, ”he stressed. No one is more aware of this than Amaya himself, who confessed that having played such a dark character for so many years (his first performance as Aurelio Casillas was in 2016) aggravated his dependence on illegal substances. For the Cuban actor Rubén Cortada, who performs for the first time in Latin America as the antagonist of “El Señor de Los Cielos 8”, “it is a chronicle in which fiction is used to tell real events.” “I have been surprised by their commitment to the truth and how they use fiction to denounce what sometimes journalism fails to tell,” the artist told EFE. A COMPLAINT WITH MELODRAMA The eighth installment of “El Señor de los Cielos” revives Aurelio Casillas, Amaya’s character, dead and even buried in the first episodes of the seventh season. Something similar happens with La Felina, the character played by Maricela González. In addition, there is love, sex, action, explosions, and it follows the political element that its creator and screenwriter, Luis Zelkowicz, injected into the plot from the fourth season. This time, however, there is a clear intention to delve into the damage that drug traffickers inflict on society and on their own lives and families. “Aurelio is now a more conscious man, who thinks about the consequences that his actions have on his family, on the people he loves. He matured ”, indicates Amaya, and admits that although he is already clear about the difference between him and his character, there are still parallels. The action in the eighth season begins several months after the end of the seventh, with the reappearance of Aurelio Casillas, whom everyone believed to be dead. The transmissions will begin on January 17 in the United States through the Telemundo network. The same is expected to happen this year in the Spanish-speaking world. Alicia Civita (c) EFE Agency
