True to form, the Foundation Monique-Fitz-Back has, during the year 2022, through its financial aid program, supported a total of 101 school projects initiated by schools in the province, some of which are located in Beauharnois-Salaberry.
These initiatives involve young people from early childhood to CEGEP, including adult education. The total value of grants awarded for 2022 is $100,900. The amounts granted to each project vary between $200 and $2,000, depending on the component in which the project will be carried out and the financial needs to achieve it.
All the projects selected have in common the awareness and mobilization of young people in all stages of the project, in addition to encouraging their active involvement in achieving the objectives targeted by each component. Particular attention was also paid to projects whose purpose is to bring about positive changes in behavior among young people and their environment.
” In each of the schools in Quebec, there are young people who stand up to affirm loud and clear their hope and their environmental and social convictions. These young people take action and the Foundation
Monique-Fitz-Back is proud to support them, as well as the adults who accompany them. This is our greatest pride “, underlines Benoît Mercille, general manager of the Monique-Fitz-Back Foundation.
Here are the regional projects that receive financial assistance from the Foundation and the description of the initiatives submitted to obtain funding:

The project involves creating a flower and food garden in a section of the schoolyard that is currently not accessible. This section, approximately 300 square meters, was composed only of grass and was entirely surrounded by fences closed at all times. This space is now an island of freshness for students, teachers and citizens living near the school. This space has great educational potential that is exploited in many ways: installation of shelters for insects, monarch space, food garden, etc.

School students have decided to reduce the amount of waste produced by “fast fashion” by organizing a thrift store and thus helping young people to pay for their clothes much less expensively. The thrift store is therefore a thrift store of the deposit/consignment type: the students bring beautiful clothes that are still good and that they no longer wear. We sell them and we share half and half. We also take donations.

The project managers cooked snacks and meals with the young people using fresh produce. We now better encourage children to cook fresh and varied foods. Thanks to our redesigned kitchen, young people taste, discover, cook and share fresh food. They explore, at their own pace, the preparation of various foods.
