Eating correctly is important to live in harmony, both physically and mentally. A healthy diet consists of consuming a wide variety of foods in adequate amounts to provide what the body really needs. To ensure a balanced diet, a meal plan and daily meals can be planned, either weekly or monthly.
”For this season, foods with higher water content (water) and containing vitamins and minerals will be great allies. In addition, to achieve a good body function, there must be a balance between water intake and loss, which rises in times of rising temperatures. The body loses water daily, which increases significantly during these days of intense heat’‘ explains Karen Quiroz, director of the School of Nutrition and Food Techniques at Le Cordon Bleu University.
Personal care and even more that of food, must be taken as a vital point in the routine and daily life of people, so that they avoid eating disorderly or having health problems.
Given this situation, Quiroz shares recommendations that should be considered to eat a healthy diet during the summer:
- Drink enough water: It is the essential nutrient that constitutes more than half of the total body weight of the human being, therefore, it is the main liquid to hydrate the body, since it absorbs heat in the event of any change in temperature. You should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day; of which at least 4 must be pure water, that is, without any extra addition, and the rest can be infusions, soft drinks or unsweetened natural juices.
- Prioritize some foods: In summer, more than all the consumption of water and the intake of those foods that keep us hydrated, coming mostly from vegetables and fruits with a higher percentage of water, such as watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, strawberries, etc., should be considered. ; and vegetables such as pickles, tomatoes, chard, lettuce, kale, arugula, celery, radishes, among others.
- Take advantage of seasonal fruits: During the summer months, the fruits that should be preferred are various, and there are for all tastes, such as: carambola, coconut, fig, delicious apple and Israel, passion fruit, peach, grape, papaya and prickly pear. These in turn will help to avoid dehydration of the body, since it contains a high water content in its composition.
These recommendations are important to live in balance and thus be able to adopt a correct diet in the summer, which in turn leads to covering the nutritional requirements or needs of each person. All these elements will increase the possibilities that people can enjoy and perform better within their activities in this hot season.
