The external commissioners return
ROME, January 5 – In the last three years the school has experienced the effects of the pandemic which have led to the need to subsequently change the methods of carrying out the state exam.
An exam which, at the end of the second cycle of education, constitutes a substantial and symbolic step in the process of building one’s life project. It is the final moment of the entire school experience, in which to express the knowledge, skills and competences developed in the training courses. For these reasons, with a specific information note, in recent days the ministry has provided summary information regarding the conduct of the 2023 state exam, which does not innovate the regulatory framework but, more simply, refers to it in its general characteristics, to facilitate knowledge in especially by students and their families.
In 2023, the final State Exam of the second cycle of education will once again be configured according to the provisions of Legislative Decree 62 of 2017. The exam will consist of two national written tests and an interview. The first written test will verify the mastery of the Italian language or of the different language in which the teaching takes place, as well as the students’ expressive, logical-linguistic and critical skills. The first test will be common to all fields of study and will take place in the same way in all institutes, with a maximum duration of 6 hours. Candidates will be able to choose between different types and themes. Seven tracks will be proposed, transversal to all fields of study, which can refer to the artistic, literary, historical, philosophical, scientific, technological, economic and social fields.
The second written test will focus on one or more disciplines characterizing the course of study. With a specific ministerial decree, the disciplines covered by the second written test will be identified by January 2023. Specific provisions will also be provided regarding the declination of this test in relation to the professional education pathways affected by the recent reorganisation. A third written test is envisaged in some special cases (for the ESABAC, ESABAC techno sections with an international option, for schools in the Aosta Valley, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and for schools with a Slovenian teaching language).
The interview will take place in a multi- and interdisciplinary key in order to evaluate the student’s ability to grasp the links between the different knowledge by linking them appropriately to each other and will be aimed at ascertaining the achievement of the cultural, educational and professional profile. The commissions for the final state exam of the second cycle of education will resume their ordinary structure and will be composed of a president from outside the school, three members from within the school and three external members.
The final evaluation, according to current legislation, will be defined with the allocation of the 100 points available to the commission, as follows: maximum 40 points school credit; first written maximum 20 points; second written maximum 20 points; maximum interview 20 points. The minimum overall score to pass the state exam is sixty cents.
