As every year, the All Saints’ Day holidays, the Christmas holidays and those of summer are common to all of France. The winter and spring holidays, for their part, respond to a distribution by zones (zone A, B and C). Which zone to go on vacation first in 2023–2024? Do zones A and zones b have common holidays? When does the 2023 school year start?
The 2022 – 2023 school year will begin for students on the day of the rschool entry which will take place on Monday, September 4, 2023. Teachers will resume for the start of the school year on Monday, September 4, 2023.

Ascension 2024: are the students bridging the gap?
Ascension Bridge : the school calendar foresees that the pupils make the bridge the Friday May 10, 2024 and Saturday May 11, 2024. Students will therefore be able to take advantage of a few days in all schools, colleges and high schools in France.
Is there class on Whit Monday 2024?
Whit Monday is a day of solidarity. It is not worked for schoolchildren, college students and high school students.
School calendar: what are zones AB and C for school holidays?
To avoid the vacation departures and returns of all of France at the same time, the school calendar provides for a distribution of academies by zones : the winter and spring holidays are deferred from one zone to another. For the 2023–2024 school year, zone C will be the first to be on vacation.
- Area A : Academies of Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lyon, Poitiers
- B-area : Aix-Marseille, Amiens, Lille, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Nice, Normandy, Orléans-Tours, Reims, Rennes, Strasbourg
- C-zone : Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse, Versailles
Calendar of school holidays 2023 – 2024 for Corsica and Overseas
The official calendars for the Overseas or Corsica academies have not yet been communicated. Indeed, the rectors, vice-rectors and heads of national education services in these regions can adapt the national calendar to take account of their particularities.
What are the school holidays in 2023–2024 for zone b?
In 2023–24, Zone B will be the last zone to go on vacation. The holidays for its inhabitants will therefore be as follows:
- All Saints holidays : from Saturday 21 October 2023 to Monday 6 November 2023
- Christmas vacation : from Saturday 23 December 2023 to Monday 8 January 2024
- Winter vacation : From Saturday February 24, 2024 to Monday May 6, 2024
- Spring Break : from Saturday April 20, 2024 to Monday May 6, 2024
- Summer holidays : Saturday July 6, 2024
All Saints Holidays 2023
Holiday All Saints are not distributed by zone : they are therefore common to all of France. In 2023, they will take place from Saturday, October 21, 2023 and the pupils will return to the school benches on Monday, November 6, 2023.
The start of the holidays takes place after class (Friday evening for students who do not have classes on Saturday).
Christmas holidays 2023
Christmas holidays are also common in the whole of France. Lasting 2 weeks, in 2023 they will take place from Saturday, December 23, 2023 to Monday, January 6, 2024.
Winter holidays (February) 2024
During winter vacation 2024, zone C will be on vacation first, and will share its 2nd week with zone A. Zone B will take its vacation last, sharing a common week with zone A. Zone C and zone B will only have the weekend of February 24 in common.
- C-zone : from Saturday February 10, 2024 to Monday February 26, 2024
- Area A ; from Saturday February 17, 2024 to Monday March 4, 2024
- B-area : from Saturday February 24, 2024 to Monday March 11, 2024
2024 Spring Break (Easter Break)
As with the winter holidays, the spring holidays are staggered according to the zones. The spring vacation schedule is broken down as follows:
- C-zone : from Saturday April 6, 2024 to Monday April 22, 2024
- Area A : from Saturday April 13, 2024 to Monday April 29, 2024
- B-area: from Saturday April 20, 2024 to Monday May 6, 2024
Date of summer vacation 2024
Summer vacation 2024 or “Summer holidays” will start from Saturday, July 6, 2024. Students will be able to take advantage of the months of July and August to prepare for the next school year.
The start of the 2024 school year will take place on Monday, September 2, 2024.
