The Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, highlighted the increase in people inoculated in the last weeks, within the framework of the vaccination process against Convid 19, since the bivalent dose began to be applied to those over 50 years of age.

The Secretary of State led this Friday a vaccination operation against covid-19 at the Carabineros NCO School located in the commune of Macul, as part of the plan to vaccinate the target audience to contain the original strain of the coronavirus and the omicron variant. .

From January 16, the dose began to be applied to people over 50 years of age -before it was over 60 years of age- and to new groups: people with severe disabilities; to caregivers of dependent patients; to SENAME population; state workers with “critical functions”; to essential direct care personnel for citizens; nursery school educators or nursery and kindergarten workers; teachers and directors of preschool, basic and secondary education; gendarmes and people deprived of liberty; and air, land and sea transport personnel.

They joined the health personnel and immunosuppressed people from the age of 12.

Almost two weeks after the measure, Aguilera highlighted that “in the last week there has been an increase in the number of people vaccinated. We have vaccinated around 250 thousand people”.

The authority stressed that “last week we were at 1.5 million (vaccinated), now we are at 1,750,000, we are advancing despite the challenges of adding an extra vaccination group.”

The minister explained thatpractically half of them (elderly people) are already vaccinated, however we have to keep moving forward: we want to reach at least 70% -the goal is to reach 85%- so we are going to continue deploying with the mayors”.

The authority made a call “to those who are on vacation and are part of the priority groups to catch up with their bivalent dose. They can do it from any vaccination point throughout the country. The covid continues to circulate and we must be protected ”.

In addition to Aguilera, the activity was also attended by Eduardo Vergara, Undersecretary for Crime Prevention; Fernando González, Undersecretary(s) of Public Health; General Rodrigo Espinoza, Director of Education, Doctrine and History, and Gonzalo Soto, Health Seremi of the Metropolitan region.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health reported this Friday that the new cases of Covid-19 confirmed nationwide decreased by 22% in the last weekMeanwhile in the last 14 days are reduced by 37.3%. In addition, all regions reduce their cases in the last seven and fourteen days.

The case report for this Friday, January 27, records one thousand 870 new cases of COVID-19with a positivity of 9.97% in the last 24 hours nationwide, with 13,127 tests, PCR and antigen test. The daily positivity in the Metropolitan Region is 10.13%.

Of the 1,870 new cases, 63% are diagnosed by antigen test, 24% originate from active case finding (BAC) and 11% of those notified are asymptomatic. Regarding the Metropolitan Region, it presents 53% by antigen, 24% by BAC and 9% of the reported cases are asymptomatic.

Regarding deaths, according to the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours, 15 deaths were registered due to causes associated with COVID-19. The total number of deceased amounts to 63,745 in the country.
