Carcassonne: Launch of the International Political Film Festival this Thursday, January 11

The 5th political film festival begins with two screenings of the off program from 2 p.m. at the Colosseum. The opening ceremony is announced for 6:30 p.m. at the convention center.

A festival, international, devoted exclusively to fiction and political documentaries, in the middle of January in Carcassonne, with prestigious guests, and who have things to say about our time. It’s the crazy bet led by Etienne Garcia and Henzo Lefèvre, who are at the 5th edition of an event that continues to shine a little more every year on a national, even international scale. The 350 films viewed were sent from 19 countries: this gives 50 public screenings at the Colisée cinema, at the Odeum, at the Dôme congress centre, 34 previews and the presence of more than 50 artists. Among them, Cédric Jimenez, the darling of French filmmaking, director of “Novembre” (screening at the Coliseum on Thursday at 4 p.m.!), and screenwriter of “La French” in particular, who will receive this Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Dôme, a prize of honor for the opening ceremony. Actor Vincent Lindon will also receive an honorary prize for his career, at the end of a marathon day for him – a masterclass from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Odeum on Saturday, to be followed by pass holders. The competition jury in the fiction category is made up of Bruno Solo, Anne Azoulay and Thomas Soliveres.

Breakfasts with the film crews

For bulimic film buffs and festival lovers, the FIFP offers various formulas allowing you to follow the festival from January 12 to 16 at the appropriate level. Meet at the Maison du festival on Place Carnot where the information point and the ticket office are located. Schoolchildren, from CM1 to terminale, from all over the Occitanie region will be able to see and then debate in class on 7 feature films from the school selection on as many social, economic or historical themes. The organizers have introduced a new experience this year with the Salon du Festival, rue des Trois Couronnes, opposite the congress centre. Hot drinks, refreshments, snacks will allow you to regain your strength between two sessions. Every morning from 8:45 a.m., a breakfast discussion is offered with festival guests to discuss the film screened the night before. Partnerships have been forged with the city’s restaurateurs, to “simplify the journey for festival-goers”. Place Carnot is home to the festival house, where actors, film crews, directors and the public can chat at any time of the day.

The opening film, Houria, a Franco-Algerian film by Mounia Meddour, presented out of competition is screened at 7:15 p.m. at the Dôme, but also … in Narbonne at the Théâtre & Cinéma, at 8:30 p.m. This Wednesday evening, the Off program started with a docu-concert offered by the 11Bouge association at the Théâtre de Pennautier. The closing ceremony will be held on Monday January 16 at the Dôme at 8 p.m.
