The Municipality of Faenza will receive the ‘La Città per il Verde’ award as part of the event, now in its 23rd edition. The recognition, established by the publisher Editorial Greenis the only one, at national level, assigned to Italian municipalities that have particularly distinguished themselves for achievements aimed at increasing the public green assets or have, through targeted programs, improved the environmental conditions of their territory.
The manfredo project, the subject of a bid for the competition, is the intervention for the construction of the cycle-pedestrian path in the ‘Piani – Ferrucci’ parks, presented by the ‘Environment, Green Maintenance and Urban Decoration’ Service and by the ‘Infrastructure Design , Maintenance of public works’ of the Union of Romagna Faentina, 815 meters long route, starting from via Corbari, from which further connections converge, ending at the back of the Don Milani school, where there was already a cart track used by school-goers area as a pedestrian path. The intervention connects the existing infrastructures within the two parks such as the dog walking area and the school complexes. The new public work, completed in recent months and which has seen an important flow of users, has favored sustainable mobility between the different areas and the connection of the routes between via Canal Grande, via Firenze and via Ospitalacci, significantly improving the level of safety of the movement of pedestrians and cyclists.
The ‘City for Greenery’ award is divided into three sections: ‘Urban greenery’, ‘Maintenance of greenery’ and ‘Best voluntary initiative for the management of urban green spaces’, in addition to the special ‘weTree’ award. Depending on the sections, recognition is assigned on the basis of categories: for municipalities, identified on the basis of population and for public bodies, private structures for public purposes and voluntary associations.
The Faenza project is among the 20 selected, nationwide, which will receive the award on February 24 at the ‘Myplant and Garden’ fair in Milan.
“Faenza – explains the commissioner with responsibility for Parks and green spaces, Massimo Bosi– it can count on a great wealth of public green areas and the citizens have always considered it an added value for the livability of the city itself. The winning work is the result of collaboration between the Environment, Green Maintenance and Urban Decor Service and the Infrastructure Design and Public Works Maintenance Service, which ‘gave legs’ to a project that has triggered a new sharing of a open space. All this continues in the direction that the administration has given itself: to stimulate and make cycle-pedestrian mobility safer, especially in the vicinity of schools”.
It is not the first time that the city of Faenza has won the ‘La Città per il Verde’ award; in 2017 he received it for the profound redevelopment of Parco Bucci and the following year for the commitment made by the Green Volunteers who take care of many areas of the city.
