” We want to promote our school to all those who intend to become physiotherapists or occupational therapists », indicates Orane Dubruque, one of the students of the training institute in masso-kinesitherapy (IFMK) of Berck-sur-Mer. For this, the establishment will open its doors Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for a discovery day.
“The school of physiotherapists”, as it is called in Berck, is an institution in the seaside resort, known for its hospital vocation. It was created in 1962, first within the Maritime Hospital, then from 1989 in its current premises on avenue du Phare. It has had several extensions over the years. ” Here, we train physiotherapists and occupational therapists », explains Sylvie Cocton, educational director of the IFMK.
Two different professions
These two professions are part of the rehabilitation sector. ” Physio is movement therapycontinues Sylvie Cocton. It will act on the physical, it will maintain or restore the patient, who has suffered a trauma, in his usual environment. The occupational therapist is different. He will work, among other things, on the cognitive functions of the patient. He will act on a traumatized person, but also on his environment which he will arrange according to the evil from which he suffers.. »
A job for sure
Currently, the IFMK welcomes 321 future physiotherapists and 180 occupational therapists, mainly students from Hauts-de-France. And the establishment is in high demand. ” For physiotherapists, it’s four years of study after one year of college. For occupational therapists, it’s three years of study after a selection by Parcoursupsays Sylvie Cocton. In the field of health professions, it is a short course with the assurance of working afterwards. Graduates are spoiled for choice. »
” Physio is a very social profession where communication with the patient is essentialassures Orane Dubruque. The mind plays a lot too. It’s a profession where you question yourself all the time. Most of the students at the IFMK in Berck have a sporting profile which has made them aware of the approach to this profession. But it’s not reductive. »
