L’teaching team and the parents of students of the’Rene Cassin public schoolto Montbert (near Nantes) worked for several months on the change in school timetables.
Easy organization
During the school council of October 20, 2022, then the extraordinary school council of November 15, they recorded their wish, at the majorityof a back to 4 day week.
Arguments put forward: the fatigue generated by the 4 and a half days for the students, the easier organization with these new rhythms and the harmonization with other establishments. As a reminder, theSaint Joseph private school is a 4 day week.
“I had said on my side that I would not take part in the vote”, specified the mayor in the direction of the elected officials during the last municipal Council of Montbert. “Because I believe that the community does not have to impose a mode of operation”.
A hotly debated topic
For regulatory issues, however, the municipal council had to ratify this decision so that the request for exemption could be sent to theNantes Academy. What he did, without the voice of Councilor Gildas Hégron, who was not there not favorable :
We were told that it was better for the children to be on a 4 and a half day rhythm. Which I also believe. For me, we have a societal problem, we no longer look at the child but how it suits the parents.
A reaction that the mayor said he understood, returning more broadly to the abolition of school on Saturday mornings decided in 2008 by the Minister of National Education at the time, Xavier Darcos.
This is a reform that was made to promote tourism. But in the countryside, we have lost all the moments of conviviality that existed when parents went to pick up their children at school. Now, there is no longer the same cohesion between the parents of students.
No more school on Wednesday morning?
Be that as it may, since the question is no longer there, the mayor insisted on the fact that “our role is to record their decision”. the only imperative of the municipality was that “this does not change anything in terms of the operation of the meridian break”. which is the case.
Also, if the academic management of the departmental services of national education validates this decision (which should only be a formality), the students will not have no more school on wednesday morning from the next academic year, September 2023.
The 3 hours of presence for that day will be spread over the other 4 days of the week, passing Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 5:15 a.m. to 6:00 a.m..
In the facts
In detail, kindergarten and CP pupils will work from 8:35 a.m. to 12 p.m. then from 1:45 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. The others, from CE1 to CM2, will be in class from 8:35 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. 2 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.adapt school transport Consequently.
