PCTO, Valditara announces the changes. Students protest and soil the INAIL headquarters: “You can’t die from school”

The topic of the revision of the PCTOs, or the former school-work alternation, continues to be among the hottest in recent days. The failure to compensate the family of Giuliano de Seta, one of the boys who died in an internship, has in fact inflamed the debate on the one hand and started a process of change announced by Minister Valditara.

Precisely in this regard, a large white writing, ‘Shame‘, appeared this morning in front of the Inail headquarters in Milan, where the plate of the national institute for occupational accident insurance was also daubed with red paint.

The action, reports Ansa, is by Rete Studentə Milano to protest against the failure to compensate the family of Giuliano de Seta, who died alternating school and work last September.

Today we sanctioned the Inail office in Milan following the failure to compensate the family of Giuliano de Seta, who died alternating between school and work last September; compensation that was denied with the paradoxical reasoning of Giuliano’s lack of qualifications, not even considered an intern in all respects – the activists explained in a statement -. We believe it is the umpteenth reconfirmation of a now established and obvious fact: the state is not interested in school, and least of all in solving a now obvious problem, namely the lack of job security in our country“.

The three deaths at work that occur every day in Italy, in addition to the three students who died on internships, are not white deaths, but have very specific mandates: from Confindustria to Mario Draghi, from Inail to Valditara – they concluded -, pieces that make up the mosaic of a system now more than ever a slave to profit and completely uninterested in the human capital used to generate it. You can’t die at school“.

The reply of the Minister of Education and Merit to the statement of the Student network lasts: “I have instructed my lawyers to sue those responsible for these defamatory and grossly defamatory statements. With the authors of these communiqués I want nothing to do.”, says Valditara regarding the accusation of being one of the “instigators” of the fatal accidents that occurred to the students on the stage.

We reported in recent days precisely of the numbers of deaths that occurred during the PCTO processes: in Italy from 2017 to 2021 – bearing in mind that from 2020 onwards, due to the covid, there was a decrease in young people in companies for reasons related to the pandemic, there were reported 296.003 injuries and 18 dead.

For the Minister of Education and Merit Valditara there is no doubt: “The school-work alternation must be reviewed: students and their lives must be protected. We are working to prepare more just and advanced legislation together with the Minister of Labor Maria Elvira Calderone”.

For Valditara, in fact, “first of all, the boy must be trained on workplace safety issues. – he said – And he cannot be left alone in his school-work path”, therefore, “a crucial role is the adequate training of the school tutor called to manage and evaluate together with the company tutor“. It serves “continuous accompaniment” and a dialogue “both for the purposes of safety and the educational, professional, human and cultural efficacy of the alternation experience“.

Changes also welcome by the trade unions, which focus more on clarity and safety of the routes, however emphasizing how PCTO courses remain training and not work.
